Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
